Symptoms

When you install an adTempus upgrade, the installer may present the following message:

The setup must update files or services that cannot be updated while the system is running. If you choose to continue, a reboot will be required to complete the setup.

Cause

This message generally occurs if the adTempus script host process (adtempus.jobhost.exe or adtempus.jobhost32.exe) is running when you run the setup program. The host process is started by the adTempus service whenever adTempus needs to run a script. The setup program will stop the adTempus service during installation, but does not automatically terminate the host process, to avoid interrupting any running scripts.

The host process automatically shuts down within a few minutes after all scripts have finished running.  

Resolution

If this message occurs during setup, do not click OK to dismiss it until you have determined what process(es) are causing it. Continuing with setup may result in the need to restart the computer afterward.

First, stop the adTempus service if it is running.

Then check the Windows Task Manager to see if one or more instances of "adtempus.jobhost.exe" or "adtempus.jobhost32.exe" are running (be sure to show processes for all users in the Task Manager). If so, either wait a minute or two for them to terminate, or, if you are sure no scripts are running that could be adversely affected, you can terminate the processes from Task Manager.

Then click OK to allow setup to continue.
