Summary

This article describes how to use the Microsoft Debug Diagnostic Tool (DebugDiag) to create a memory dump file to capture the state of the adTempus service for troubleshooting purposes.

You should perform this procedure only when instructed to do so by an Arcana Development support engineer. The memory dump file created by this procedure does not provide any information that you can use to troubleshoot problems yourself.

Installing DebugDiag

If the Microsoft Debug Diagnostic Tool (DebugDiag) is not already installed on your computer, you need to install it first:

  1. Download DebugDiag from the Microsoft Web site. Download DebugDiag.msi if you are running a 32-bit version of Windows, or DebugDiagx64.msi if you running a 64-bit version of Windows.
  2. Install DebugDiag. During installation, you can uncheck the options to associate dump files with the tool and to install documentation and samples.

Using DebugDiag

When you are ready to create the memory dump:

  1. Run DebugDiag (Start -> All Programs -> Debug Diagnostics Tool 1.1 -> DebugDiag 1.1).
  2. If DebugDiag starts with the "Select Rule Type" wizard, cancel the wizard to return to the main DebugDiag window.
  3. Go to the Processes tab.
  4. Locate the "adtempussrv.exe" process.
  5. Right-click the process and select Create Full Userdump.
  6. DebugDiag will create the dump and then display the file location and name. Dump creation may take several minutes.
  7. ZIP the dump file and upload it to Arcana Development following the instructions provided by your support engineer.

Removing DebugDiag

When the problem has been resolved and DebugDiag is no longer needed, you may choose to uninstall DebugDiag, or leave it installed in case it is needed in the future. It will not affect operation of the computer or any applications.
