Symptoms

If the evaluation period or evaluation license for adTempus has expired, the adTempus service will not start. When you attempt to start the service you will receive a message similar to the following:

The adTempus service could not be started.
The service did not report an error.
More help is available by typing NET HELPMSG 3534.

Note that this start failure may occur due to other problems. When the service fails, adTempus will log a message to the Application log in the Event Viewer describing the problem. In this case it will log an Error message with event ID 20:

This evaluation copy of adTempus is expired, or your license is invalid or has expired. To continue using adTempus you must purchase a license. See the online help for more information.

More Information

To check whether an adTempus license is installed on the computer where the service is failing, run the License Manager application found in the adTempus group on the Start menu.

Resolution

Obtain or install a license for the software. If you are evaluating the software and need more time to complete your evaluation, contact us to obtain an extension of your evaluation license.
